Novak Djokovic UNIQLO outfit for Wimbledon 2013

Novak Djokovic outfit for Wimbledon was launched Today at UNIQLO store in London with the presence of World Nº1. The gear is classic white and "tries to emphasize Nole's strong physique", says the brand design director Naoki Takizawa. This look is more sleek and classic than last year's outfit, with stripes limited to the side of the shirt and shorts, going from under the arm to the knee.

French Open 2012 Best Dressed and Fashion Disasters

Tennis action at Roland Garros is now a thing of the past, so it's time for us to talk about fashion and style! Who wore the most attractive tennis clothing? And what about the top fashion disasters? Take a look at our picks and then vote in our Best Dressed Poll at the end of this article.

Best Dressed

Victoria Azarenka - Nike

Vika's dress is lovely. We love the pastel colors and specially the pleated section of the dress, which makes it girly and cute. We love that she took a chance and chose a more feminine style although we were also big fans of her rebel-shorts-shirt look.

Roger Federer - Nike

The Swiss has style, we all know that. And once again he hasn't disappointed us. This look is sleek and elegant, as Roger himself, but it has kind of a rock-chic-rebel style going on too. The colors are top trend this summer: dark grey with some pops of neon yellow. Just perfect!

Venus Williams - EleVen

Venus Williams likes to design her own clothes and sometimes she gets carried away, as we've all seen in the past. Her latest collection for EleVen by Venus is minimalist and takes advantage of geometric lines to create movement. We love the cut of the dress, the sleeves, and how it accentuates her waist line. And, of course, the wise use of color.

Maria Kirilenko - Adidas

Color block is a huge trend since last year and it still rocks for 2012 Spring-Summer. This Adidas look fits perfectly with Maria Kirilenko's skin tone and body and stands out for the right reasons.

Novak Djokovic - UNIQLO

Recently, Novak slipt up with Sergio Tacchini. There were rumors he would join Nike or maybe Adidas. Nole's boldness is the reason why he makes this list: he didn't went for the obvious and signed with Japanese clothing line UNIQLO. For a debut, the Japanese brand did a great job: it maintained Serbia's flag color using just a few stripes over dark blue and white background, creating a classic and elegant look. But we still feel that World Nº1 deserves something more fashionable than the usual classic-minimalist style. Let's see what UNIQLO comes up with for the next major tournaments.

Fashion Disasters

Flop nº 1

Nike Summer  - Petra Kvitová, Li Na, Julia Goerges
We are sorry to say but Nike summer collection isn't flattering at all! Maybe the problem is the fabric or the purple color, but whatever it is, it is making beautiful women like Julia Goerges, Petra Kvitova and Li Na look chubby and clumsy.

Flop nº 2

Bethanie Mattek-Sands
Really???

Flop nº 3

Adidas by Stella McCartney  - Caroline Wozniacki
This outfit was a huge disappointment, considering the gorgeous dresses Stella McCartney has already designed for Caroline Wozniacki. The yellows clash against the red clay and it looks like the Danish is wearing two or three jerseys on top of each other. Not good at all!

Flop nº 4

Novak Djokovic's team and coach
Can someone explain us why Djokovic signed with UNIQLO just before Roland Garros, and his team and coach Marian Vajda keep on wearing Sergio Tacchini? In our perspective, this is a gigantic marketing flop for Novak :(

Djokovic renews image and signs with Uniqlo

New logo, new website and concept, and finally a new sponsor. In less than two months, the "brand" Novak Djokovic turned everything upside down and improved its image on all levels. Tennis nº1 announced Today, just a day after the split with italian company Sergio Tacchini, that Uniqlo, the Japanese clothing and sports equipment manufacturer, will be his new sponsor for the next five years.

"From today I am a samurai", joked Nole on his FB page
Nole has secured his position as the best player in the ATP World Tour and has been attracting a lot of fans in Europe and Asia. But the Serbian hasn't caught the attention of one of the biggest markets for tennis, the United States. Surely, this new image and the implementation of a marketing and communication strategy (through the creation of a concept, a logo, etc) is nothing more than a means to an end, but in a good way. Djokovic needs to maximize his potential. It's the right moment for him to raise the bar and to improve the fine machine that is responsible for the inevitable destruction of Nadal-Federer dominance of the last 7 to 8 years.

The 5-year sponsorship deal takes immediate effect and Djokovic will wear his new outfit for the first time at Roland Garros, which begins on May 27. In a statement released today, Uniqlo stated that it has appointed "the world’s top-ranked male professional tennis player as its global brand ambassador." The Chairman and CEO of the company, Mr Tadashi Yanai, announced that they will work with Djokovic in the creation of future product lines, and in co-development of the ultimate Uniqlo functional wear". The Japanese brand promises to use "the most innovative fabrics and technologies to develop match wear that can contribute to the performance of the player".

Commenting on the announcement, the Serbian said: "UNIQLO is a cool brand with strong roots in Japan, a country whose culture and way of life I respect. I have a personal philosophy which I call ‘Be Unique,’ and this is based on my strong passion, drive and eagerness to keep improving myself. I am passionate about being the best possible tennis player, as well as the best possible person, and I have a continuous desire to help people, especially children, who have been less fortunate than me.”

Recently, Novak Djokovic's official website and Facebook page were modified to include new features and a more clean design. The player's motto, which is "The Greater the Challenge the more Glory in overcoming it" is introduced at the top of the website, which is presented in two languages, Serbian and English. The logo associates Novak Djokovic's initials with strong principles such as tradition, freedom and the ability to dream.

Djokovic splits with Sergio Tacchini, New sponsor might be Uniqlo

Tennis nº 1 Novak Djokovic has ended his sponsorship agreement with Sergio Tacchini International, announced the Italian clothing company, a day after the Serbian lost the Rome final to Rafael Nadal. The brand wasn't able to deal with Nole's growing sucess. Problems with payments due to the player and a weak distribution of his gear, especially in the US, were some of the reasons for the split.

“It has been mutually and amicably decided that, as of the 2012 Roland Garros Grand Slam, Novak Djokovic will no longer be the brand ambassador,” the Novara, northern Italy-based manufacturer said in an e-mailed statement today, quoted by Business Week.
Nole signed with Tacchini in November 2009, when ranked third. The brand had already sponsored great tennis champions like Pete Sampras and Martina Hingis.
In its statement, Sergio Tacchini International recognized that Djokovic "outgrown the Italian brand" and "has grown professionally, climbing from third to first place in the world ATP ranking". "Although losing such a precious spokesperson, Tacchini is offering Djokovic the opportunity to take on new challenges and new sponsors", added Tacchini.
According to CNBC sources, Tacchini was able to sign Djokovic by offering him a smaller guarantee than the larger companies would pay, but promised bigger should he do well. When Djokovic kept winning, the company fell behind on payments to the tennis star. The italian brand, says CNBC, wasn't able to produce interesting outfits for the biggest tennis gear market, the United States, and, in fact, failed to deliver Djokovic's Grand Slam apparel to US retailers.
Serbian media is saying that Djokovic will sign with Japanese clothing brand Uniqlo, who already sponsors Japanese tennis player Kei Nishikori. But Nike and Adidas could also be in the run.
The Serbian player or his staff haven't made any comment on Sergio Tacchini's statement.
